Hello, I am Catherine Horan, an Art Therapist and Psychotherapist who specializes in DBT, trauma and anxiety and a Certified Provider of The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) and a Reicki Master.

Tired of ‘talking’ about your feelings and explaining yourself to another therapist? With the mindfulness of DBT and client centered therapy we create a ‘Took Kit’ custom designed for your specific needs and goals using art, art therapy directives and expressive modalities.
Grounding and self-regulating skills are the foundation of our work together. With the selection of art materials, what you and how you create, the interpretation and meaning of your art ~ thus begins your ‘new voice’ and our therapeutic dialogue together. With this approach clients gain self-esteem, a new perspective and ability to tackle issues and life challenges in a healthier and more productive way.
As you begin to express yourself creatively when WORDS cannot and quickly identify your feelings with a deeper grasp and understanding of these issues, more so than talk therapy can provide. Interpreting these art images and meaning is an integral piece of our dialogue and our therapeutic relationship.
The SSP is an auditory intervention developed by Dr. Steven Porges to restore the nervous system, reduce stress and auditory sensitivity and enhance social engagement and resilience. The SSP is an adjunct therapy meant to be used in combination with and enhance existing treatments; which makes the SSP and art therapy a wonderful and successful treatment program.
My therapeutic approach is eclectic and integrates the SSP, with the Mindfulness of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT); Solution Focussed and Client Centered Therapy using the Art and Expressive Therapies.
What this means is that I like to work with you to figure our how your issues came about, how they will affect you now, and how we can work together to solve them while using art and art materials, creating together..
My goal is to make therapy a safe place for your to share your fears, insecurities, hopes and dreams. Helping you find the best solutions to your problems and assist you in incorporating them into your life so you can become the best ‘you’ you would like to be as therapy is the best form of self-care.
My therapy approach is collaborative, which means I am an active and creative participant in all our sessions together. Together, creatively we will work to figure out your goals, a plan of action and how to work on them not only in therapy, and outside.
